Microneedling and PRP Therapy

SKINPEN® MICRONEEDLING

Microneedling is a safe in-office cosmetic skin rejuvenation treatment designed to treat a number of skin conditions.

Skin Pen

Microneedling is a non-surgical procedure where multiple precise “micro-injuries” are made to the skin. The thousands of micro channels to the skin serve to stimulate the body’s natural healing response and increases collagen production via Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT). Collagen & elastin are natural elements produced by our skin for healing and to promote a more youthful appearance.

we use SkinPen® for our microneedling services. The first microneedling device to receive FDA approval, SkinPen® is safe and effective for all skin types and shades.

If you are curious about what microneedling can do for your appearance, please call our office at 210-651-1112 to schedule a consultation.

What Microneedling Treats

Microneedling uses the body’s natural healing response to improve the appearance of:

Skin texture, fine lines and wrinkles, acne scars, trauma scars, stretch marks

Microneedling is a gentler anti-aging treatment than other forms of skin resurfacing, including lasers and IPLs, since it is more controlled and without heat or ablation.

WHAT ARE THE PHASES OF HEALING WITH MICRONEEDLING?

Your skin recovers in stages following microneedling treatment. These are:

Inflammation. Following treatment, the area will swell slightly and become mildly pink to red as the body sends fresh blood and oxygen to the skin. This begins the healing response. Proliferation. Collagen and elastin, which are part of the extracellular matrix, begin to form along with new blood vessels Remodeling. New dermal tissue and blood vessels form in the area

Safe and effective, clinical studies have found that 90% of microneedling patients would recommend the treatment to family and friends. Call our office today to schedule your consultation and learn if microneedling is right for you.

THE MICRONEEDLING PROCESS

During the microneedling procedure at our office, the SkinPen® is moved evenly over the treatment area, creating thousands of precise micro-injuries to the uppermost layer of the dermis and spontaneously triggering the synthesis of new collagen – all without forming scar tissue. Extensive training by our aestheticians allows for controlled induction of the skin’s own self-repair process.

DOES MICRONEEDLING HURT?

Microneedling is performed after treatment with a topical numbing cream, which helps guard against discomfort. The procedure is not considered painful and is well tolerated by a majority of patients.

MICRONEEDLING RECOVERY

As a nonsurgical procedure, microneedling will require little if any downtime. Some redness and swelling may be present in the treatment area and the skin may feel tight, but these things tend to self-resolve within a few days.

Pinpoint bleeding is possible with some levels of treatment. This stops almost immediately and will slough off with dead skin cells once dry. It is important that you do not pick at the treatment area during the healing phase.

Taking care of your skin after microneedling is important both for you comfort and for better results. During your time in our care, we will make sure you understand all pre and post-treatment instructions to help ensure your continued comfort.

HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?

The number of treatments needed varies from patient to patient and depends on their unique needs. At your consultation, we will provide a customized plan to help you reach your aesthetic goals.

MICRONEEDLING CANDIDATES

SkinPen® is safe and effective for all skin types. Minimally invasive and nonsurgical, microneedling requires little preparation and will not interfere with normal activities. Some minor discomfort is possible following treatment, but this is easily dealt with through proper skin care.

Our certified aesthetician will perform a thorough skin analysis and listen carefully to your goals before formulating a comprehensive skin care plan. We will also recommend the right skin care products post-procedure to help with the rejuvenation process as well.

IS MICRONEEDLING PERMANENT?

Scars and stretch marks treated with microneedling will not come back. Fine lines, wrinkles, sun damage, and other skin conditions can reoccur, though proper skin care following treatment can delay or reduce these issues.

Unlike laser treatment, microneedling can be done repeated without risk of building up scar tissue. It is safe to undergo additional treatments.

PRP Facial

You've probably seen the photos on Instagram over the past couple of years of celebrities or beauty content creators' faces seemingly slathered in blood. What could be mistaken for SPOOKY MAKEUP is actually a skin-care treatment often referred to as platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy. Basically, a mask made out of a component of your very OWN blood not anyone else's is spread all over your face to rejuvenate your complexion. As terrifying as this technique may seem, it actually boasts impressive, virtually painless results that will have your skin glowing.

In recent months, PRP treatments have become highly sought after in America by people wanting an alternative to dermal fillers to plump their skin, many consider PRP to be safer than injectables. Reason being: "You're using your own cells," With all this in mind, PRP is the future of skin care. PRP is also a major part of the latest hair loss treatment. It's even been shown to be an effective procedure for those with alopecia. Microneedling with PRP facial have become popular among men as well.

What exactly is PRP?

When blood is placed into a centrifuge, it separates into three distinct layers: plasma on top, platelets and blood cells in the middle, and red blood cells at the bottom. PRP is derived from the center part, also known as the "serum portion,"

The platelets, in particular, contain pockets called alpha granules, which secrete high levels of growth factors more than 20, if you want to talk specifics. "They've been shown to be effective for “wound healing”, as well as improving skin elasticity, volume, and texture,"

When platelet-rich plasma is reintroduced to skin on its own through a non-invasive procedure, cell turnover is stimulated, and in turn, collagen and elastin production is ramped up for a plumper, tighter, and smoother complexion.

What is the PRP process like?

Now, you're probably wondering how your blood goes from flowing through your veins to spread onto your face. Well, you'll need to get your blood drawn first. Then, the vials of your blood are placed in a centrifuge to isolate the platelets from your red blood cells.

From there, your Doctor could go a couple of different routes with PRP. Your platelets can be injected directly into your skin like fillers "to stimulate collagen production and achieve rejuvenation,"

Alternately, you can combine your PRP treatment with microneedling.

This procedures prepares your skin for your PRP to be spread all over it. These pairings further stimulate collagen production, reduces fine lines, and accelerates wound healing.

Depending on how aggressive the microdermabrasion was, recovery might take a day or two of downtime before you're ready to hit the streets. You're sure to emerge from treatment a bit red, almost like a sunburn. Post-procedure sunscreen is even highly recommended. However, makeup is discouraged.

Post-Procedure instructions will be provided to you by Vayu Staff in detail.

Who benefits most from PRP treatments?

Those with premature wrinkles, high levels of sun damage, or anyone who desires a fresher, more even-toned complexion are ideal candidates for the PRP facial, However, if you have a history of blood diseases, including clotting or bleeding disorders, you should avoid PRP treatments.

In the risks and side effects department, you won't find as many as you may imagine. In fact, that the only risk you really run is bruising from getting your blood drawn, as well potential, minor bruising on your face from the injections or microneedling.
